Panda Show Standards

New Zealand Cavy Judges Association

The Dramatic Contrast of Hair and Skin

With the Panda show Standards, the absolute hallmark of a show-quality Panda is the stark, breathtaking contrast between its pure white coat and its highly pigmented skin. Because the Panda is genetically a Silver Agouti stripped entirely of its black hair pigmentation, the hair itself must be a pristine, solid snow-white. Beneath this white coat, the exposed skin on the ears, mouth, nostrils, and foot pads must be as deep, solid black as possible. This intense "black, white, and bold" presentation is the most critical element judges evaluate on the show table.

Eyes, Ears, and Facial Points

A correct Panda exhibit must possess bold, prominent black eyes that stand out sharply against the stark white facial fur. The ears must be well-formed, rose-petal shaped, and completely black, with no flesh-coloured patches or pink spotting caused by a lack of pigmentation. The deep black shading must extend uniformly across the nose, nostrils, lips, and entire mouth area, creating a perfectly balanced, clean, and striking facial presentation that defines the true breed standard.

The Panda Show Standard is essentially a "blueprint" for the perfect pedigree Panda cavy breed.  It is an official written document from NZCJA.
